Chase 3000 Software Recommendations

Software I think most Windows 95, 98, 2000 users should have

Windows 3.1 users should upgrade to a more recent version of Windows

Mac users, well...you get to make your own page.

Most of the net is designed for monitor settings of 800x600 and at least 64,000 colors. You can change your display settings in Start/settings/control panel/display. If you set them to what most of the net is designed for, you will probably enjoy your Internet experience more.

• Outlook Express Free with Internet Explorer (download with it)

Compression Utility .. A Must Have

• WinZip One of the first files you should download.  It allows you to open other downloaded files.

HTML & Graphics

• Microsoft FrontPage The program I use for creating web pages.
• WS_FTP  Needed to transfer your creations to the server. (Not needed, if you have FrontPage.)
• Paint Shop Pro Excellent graphics editor
• ThumbsPlus One of my most used programs

Other

• Top Desk Hide the icons on your screen while still having access  (Link not current).
• Crescendo Netscape users should download this music plugin. IE users already have it built in.
• QuickTime Multimedia player.
• RealAudio & RealVideo Allows you to receive audio and video in real time across the net
• McAfee Anti-Virus Software
• Mirabilis (ICQ) Great little program. Tells you when your friends are online + chat, email, collaboration, etc.  (HELP PAGE for ICQ users).
• TrendMicro PC-cillin Anti-Virus Software (Chase 3000's favorite)
• WinStock Excellent stock tracking program
• Atom Time Great little program to keep your pc clock in harmony with the atomic clock.

Phones and Collaboration

You might find one of these to your liking:

• DialPad Talk long distance for free.
• Media Ring Talk long distance for free.
• Groove  Collaboration program with a lot of features.  Excellent.
• NetMeeting Excellent program, though it fails to initialize consistently.

Security Programs

• Cyber Patrol Best program to control access to questionable sites on the net
• We-Blocker Another child-blocking program.
• PGP Excellent process that allows you encrypt your email
