Description: The Nebraska Math Standards course will provide thoughtful sensitive use of quality assessments within the instructional environment of the Nebraska Math Standards to help meet the six quality criteria of the Nebraska Assessment and Reporting system and the Federal mandate of No Child Left Behind.

Course Requirements: Develop and implement both formative and summative teacher –made tests; Develop and implement a variety of authentic assessment skills, including rubrics, logs, graphic organizers, self and peer evaluations. Review standardized tests, criterion referenced and teacher made tests. Implement on-line assessments to comply with NDE reporting & assessment system and No Child Left Behind in grade 1, 4, 8, &11.

 

Student and Teacher Candidate Learning Outcomes: The participants will develop 15 Math assessments both formative and summative that match the Nebraska Math Standards in grades 1, 4, 8, 11 develop and implement rubrics and performance based assessments for student skill demonstration in the classroom or other appropriate settings.

 

Methods of Instruction: Short lectures on the six quality criteria of the Nebraska Standards and Assessment Reporting process and the federal guidelines of No Child Left Behind. Class discussion on appropriate assessments for standards and grade level. Individual and group work & review of the new Math assessments.

 

                                         

 

Grading Procedures:  Scale A through F; Teachers will complete teacher made science assessment writing, rubric and performance based assessment.

A – 100 – 94, B – 93 – 87, C – 86 – 77, D – 76 – 70, F 69


Educational Unit Conceptual Framework:

 

Communication – Participants will work in groups to develop formative and summative teacher made tests.

 

Professionalism – Activities planned for this course will add depth and background to the participant’s professional growth. The course will provide an opportunity to create effective educational practices by developing authentic assessment practices for all students.

 

Human Relations/Diversity: Participants will demonstrate their knowledge of classroom assessment by developing assessments to meet the needs of all students.

 

Assessment: Participants: will use a variety of assessment methods in the development of classroom assessments.

 

Thinking Skills: Participants will have the opportunity to problem solve, exchange ideas, make decisions, reason, be creative, communicate effectively and initiate thinking into student centered classroom assessment.

 

Methodology/ Technology: Participants will use a variety of technologies to deliver their assessment model. Lecture, projection units, Word, web-based software and cooperative learning will be utilized
